Recent events at the GVCA including our Building Excellence Awards, the annual golf scramble and most recently our Brisket, Burger and Beer event demonstrated how powerful the relationships are in this industry. Sure, we compete, but we collaborate on building better and it can be seen when our people and our membership gather. The collective industry works better when we work together. Networking is often identified as one the of the most important benefits of being a part of the association.

Networking events present valuable opportunities to drive your business forward and expand your professional network. Here’s how you can make the most of these events to benefit your business:

Set Clear Goals: Before attending a networking event, define your objectives. Determine what you hope to achieve, whether it’s finding potential clients, seeking partnerships, or gaining industry insights. This clarity will help you focus your efforts effectively.

Prepare an Elevator Pitch: When asked be sure to communicate who you are, what your business does, and the value you offer. Practice it to make a strong first impression.

Be Approachable: Approach others with genuine interest, listen actively, and engage in meaningful conversations.

Share Knowledge and Expertise: Offer your expertise and insights. Share valuable information, tips, or industry trends. Position yourself as a resource and build trust and credibility with potential clients or partners.

Follow Up: Follow up with the individuals you connected with. Send personalized emails or connect on professional networking platforms. Reinforce the relationship and explore potential collaborations or business opportunities.

Get Involved: Actively participate in networking event activities, such as panel discussions or workshops. This allows you to gain visibility and demonstrate your commitment to the industry.

Be Genuine: Networking is about building relationships, so be authentic in your interactions. Focus on building connections rather than aggressively selling your products or services. People are more likely to work with those they feel a connection with.

Attend the right events: Pick networking events that cater to your industry or target audience. This ensures that you meet individuals who are more likely to be interested in your business and can provide valuable opportunities.

By leveraging networking events effectively, you can expand your business network, create partnerships, gain new clients, and stay ahead in your industry. Remember, networking is a long-term investment, and building strong relationships takes time and effort.  We are stronger together. Keep your eyes on the calendar for upcoming events for more opportunities to connect and grow.
